Reid House

Reid House is a newly built (2010) boarding house with a large, spacious common room and a student kitchen for the boys to make themselves refreshments and light snacks. With 50 beds in a number of 2/3/4 bed dormitories it offers the Houseparent the opportunity to ensure that all boys are happy with their sleeping arrangements.

Mr Holt is the Houseparent of Reid House, and since starting his role in April 2016, has worked hard to ensure that the boys in Reid, boarders and outboarders alike, feel at home and welcome.Mr Holt is always on the lookout for improvements to make Reid House a place where everyone wants to come.

Born in Hook and growing up in Reading, Mr Holt started his school life in a built up city. Once he left university he started to drift towards the country life; moving to Suffolk to work for an Outdoor Residential Adventure Activity Centre. It was here that he honed his skills of working in a residential setting. Mr Holt expanded his experience by working as a Houseparent at Finborough School in Suffolk before choosing to become a primary school teacher. After 4 years, he decided to come back to where his heart was leading and joined the team at Brymore.

Mr Holt loves that no two days are the same as a Houseparent and enjoys chatting to the boys about their progress; anything from a great lesson to a Chads PB; he always has time to celebrate. Mr Holt’s motto -‘celebrate the small successes and the big ones will come naturally’ is something that he has always lived by and that too is being proven here at Brymore.

Mr Holt is a keen musician, playing piano, trumpet and drums in a variety of groups. In addition he has been a vocalist in a rock band, played in the National Festival of Youth Music at the Royal Albert Hall and led a brass band in Suffolk to the National Brass Band Championship Finals. Mr Holt also loves films, especially Sci-Fi, and is always on hand to lend them from his vast collection of an evening!
