School Racewalkers through to National Championships

Brymore’s three excelling race walkers.

Three Brymore students have been selected to represent Somerset in the prestigious English Schools National Racewalkers Championships.

Hot from their victories at the South-West Racewalker Championships in June Gareth Stockton and Huw Edwards were instant choices for the Somerset team at the nationals. Deputy Head Boy – Harry Orr, came a respectable second in his race enabling his selection to the county team.

The Championships, which are to be held in Bedford in September, hold a special place for Brymore with Alex Wright, a previous student and Britain’s number one Racewalker, having won in 2007.

Head of PE, Brian Spridgens, has credited the boys for their dedication to the sport ‘each of the boys has worked tirelessly to be the best they can. Alex Wright has done the school proud and we have high hopes for these contenders too’.
