Taunton Academy cast a Brymore Spur

Brymore School is currently welcoming Year 7 and 8 pupils from Taunton Academy on a weekly basis to work within the Technology department.

Brymore  and the Taunton Academy have formed a unique bond which means that for an afternoon a week Academy students challenge themselves within the workshops. Currently the students are casting a ‘spur’, which represents their time at Brymore, in aluminium using the school’s foundry and utilising the specialist lathes to make a mount for it.

Anton Austin, Excellence Teacher (Design and Technology), oversees the running of this partnership and ensures that the children are all taught in a safe environment how to use the tools and machines that are of industry standard. Anton says ‘we are really enjoying welcoming the Taunton Academy pupils here and showing them the technology we have but also ensuring that they know how to use it.’ We are also looking forward to welcoming more of the Academy pupils over the next academic year.
