🇮🇸 BRYMORE IN ICELAND – DAY 2
An early start, a hearty all-you-can-eat breakfast and a spot of sandwich-making – a surprisingly new experience for some of our boys!
Then it was off for what proved to be the highlight of the trip so far – our glacier adventure on Sólheimajökull. Expertly equipped with crampons, climbing harnesses and helmets, we set off on an hour-long hike up the valley towards the glacier. Despite forecasts promising absolutely no precipitation, Iceland had other ideas, treating us to both rain and snow once we were out on the ice. It certainly added to the experience.
Next stop was Vík, with a little shopping and a visit to the spectacular black sands of Reynisfjara, famous for its dramatic coastline and powerful sneaker waves.
From there, we headed to the magnificent Seljalandsfoss waterfall – another breathtaking Icelandic experience.
After such an action-packed day, there was still time for some well-earned relaxation – swimming pools, hot tubs, water slides, a sauna and even a cold plunge for the brave. A substantial dinner followed, and everyone was ready for bed.
But Iceland wasn’t quite finished with us. Just as we were settling down for the night, Mr Sawyer sounded the alarm – the Northern Lights had appeared. A spectacular display of dancing green lights across the Icelandic sky provided the perfect ending to an extraordinary day.
Glaciers, black sand beaches, waterfalls, swimming and the Northern Lights – all in one day. Another unforgettable day for the Brymore boys. 🇮🇸

🇮🇸 BRYMORE IN ICELAND – DAY 1
At 5am this morning, 53 boys and staff set off for Heathrow – tired but excited, and full of anticipation for the wonders Iceland had in store. And they certainly weren’t disappointed.
Our first stop was the spectacular Bridge Between Continents, where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates meet – quite literally a chance to stand between two continents!
Next up was Gunnuhver, where clouds of steam, bubbling mud and the raw power of Iceland’s geothermal landscape gave everyone a taste of the extraordinary forces at work beneath their feet.
After all that exploring, it was time to refuel at Papa’s Pizza in Grindavík, where Brymore took on the all-you-can-eat challenge. Surprisingly the food won! And finally, it was on to our accommodation for some very well-earned rest after a long but unforgettable first day.

Well done to everyone involved in the house cross-country competition on Saturday. We were blessed with lovely weather and the boys competed really well. Many thanks to FOBSA for a tremendous barbecue and to all the staff working hard to make the event such as success.

You never let us down!
We know that the Brymore community is extraordinary but this has even surpassed your usual brilliance! When we asked for donations to the Bridgwater Food Bank, we never expected an incredible 250kg of produce!!
We had the pleasure of delivering all your donations to the Food Bank on Saturday and they were overwhelmed by your generosity.
A huge thank you to all who contributed.
Times are hard for everyone, so to give so generously to those for whom life is even tougher, is remarkable.

For the last 6 weeks on a Friday afternoon the year 7 boys have been working hard to earn their house badges and to learn what it takes to become a Brymore Boy.
Some of the skills they practiced over the weeks were teamwork , listening skills, and organisation and, this week, the boys finally got their well-earned badges and certificates.

There's lots going on in the library at Brymore, as always.
Firstly, we have our Halloween display, which contains a wide variety of horror, perfect for the spooky season...
Then, there are the wonderful New Book display, with books we've been able to obtain thanks to our government grant.
All exciting stuff - lots to sink your teeth into over Halloween.......

We are looking forward to our annual Harvest Festival services on Saturday. As part of our celebrations, we are running a collection of non-perishable food items, to be delivered to school, for the Bridgwater Food Bank, as we have done for many years.
If you have not yet donated, but would like to, please ensure you give donated items to your son to bring in tomorrow as we are delivering to the Food Bank on Saturday morning.

Today the boys have been cooking golden, puffy pastry ghosts wrapped around sausages. each finished with two eye holes and an oval mouth. The ghostly spooky sausage treats were served warm and tasted spookalicious!!!
Henry R's scary sausage savoury was enough to bring the shivers to your timbers!

Our amazing team of Fobsa (Friends of Brymore School) volunteers raised £16,000 for the school last year and have funded £9,000-worth of requests which enhance the school and support the boys. If you'd like to join this outstanding group, even if you can just offer a few hours a year, please come along to the AGM or get in touch.

Congratulations to Year 9 Jack H, who was showing at the this week's Dairy Show. Jack did extremely well, coming 8th out of a competitive class of 16. As the youngest in his class and with the majority of the class being much more experienced than him, this was an extremely impressive result. Well done, Jack.

On Monday, we attended the Somerset round of the English School Cross-Country Cup. It is a team event, with the best placed teams moving onto the South West Finals later in the year.
We entered and Junior Boys (7/8) and Inter boys (9/10) teams and all the boys did extremely well in a very fast race, on some very hard going, not the normal cross-country conditions we like!
This was one of the most competitive Somerset round we have been to in the last 15 years and, despite not qualifying for the next round, the boys should be proud of their performance!

Our Coleridge Society boys enjoyed a fantastic reward trip to the Black Country Living Museum last Friday. The day gave boys the chance to step back in time and experience what life was like in the past, including experiencing life as a pupil in a 19th-century classroom.
It was a brilliant day of exploring, learning, making memories and, most importantly, celebrating the amazing reading success of our Coleridge Society.
A thoroughly well-deserved reward. Well done, boys!

Year 9 pupils have harvested the pumpkins and squash they sowed as seeds in April. They have nurtured a whole crop from seed to harvest and have the skills, knowledge and confidence to replicate at home next year. So, you'd better be prepared to make lots of pumpkin soup!
Some of the fruits have been used as a display outside the school office, others are being used for various harvest festivals and they will be on sale in the final week of half term for those wishing to buy.
