Learning Support

“It is what we make out of what we have, not what we are given, that separates one person from another.” Nelson Mandela

At Brymore, we are proud of the quality of Learning Support that we are able to offer to ensure that all boys can achieve in all subject areas. Most of our team are attached to departments meaning that they are experts in the topics that boys are studying. They support in theory and practical lessons and some of our staff are qualified assessors in their area. We are fortunate to have lots of support in class meaning that every boy can succeed. As a result, boys with additional learning needs achieve above expectations at Brymore.

We place a great deal of emphasis on supporting boy’s Literacy skills and run highly successful intervention groups including spelling detectives, morning readers and the Somerset ‘Individualised Literacy Intervention’- all co-ordinated by our literacy specialist. These groups challenge boys to become more confident in their reading and spelling enabling them to access KS4 courses more easily. We also run social communication programmes, Social Skills through our Forest School, Prep Support, talk about and 1-1 mentoring.

Please see our SEN information report which is published on our Policies/Statutory Information webpage for a more detailed overview of our provision and how we allocate it.

“Education is not a problem. Education is an opportunity.” Lyndon Johnson
