History of Boarding at Brymore

Brymore has a very proud history of boarding, and currently has an interesting mixture of historical buildings (school house) combined with modern purpose built accommodation (Kemp and Reid house).

School House incorporates parts of a medieval house which was owned by John Pym who, during the English Civil War played a role in bringing about the downfall of Charles I. In 1943 the 535th Automatic Weapons battalion of the US Army was billeted in School house and the grounds while they prepared for D Day. The building is now designated as a Grade II listed building which has recently had a £1 million refurbishment accommodating up to 50 boys in the grand rooms full of history and tradition.

After 57 year of boarding in School house and Cannington house two new purpose built boarding facilities (Reid and Kemp house) were officially opened in January 2009 by HRH The Princess Royal. At a cost of nearly £4 million Kemp and Reid House provide purpose build modern accommodation for up to 100 boys, set within the heart of the school, enjoying views over the gardens and farm areas.Gallery is empty!
