All of the Year 10 boys were treated to a special day of fitness and healthy eating during a Fit for Life day at the school. Duke of Edinburgh Success
30 Brymore Boys from Year 11 ventured onto the Quantocks to undertake their Duke of Edinburgh bronze award expedition and camp. The boys, grouped in sets of 6, had to prepare and pack their kit, allocate food and plan their route from the school over the hills to the rendezvous point, which was to be home for the night. Brymore raises funds for Macmillan
The catering staff at Brymore kindly donated cakes made in their own time to ensure that the Brymore Macmillan Big Coffee Morning was a success. With cupcakes, brownies and a delicious chocolate sponge all on offer, along with a carefully decorated dining hall, it made for a big hit with the boys and staff and raised vital funds for the cancer charity.
Karate champion teaches Brymore Boys martial arts
Boys at Brymore have been a very unique opportunity to learn a martial art with a former European and National Karate Champion. Sensai Arthur Meek started out his Karate career at the Bridgwater School of Karate before training in Tokyo and eventually competing at national and international level becoming European Champion in 1989. An idea to raise money for the Barnardo’s charity at Brymore more than 4 years ago has sparked and national initiative for the charity and this legacy continues to raise money all these years on. Year 11’s undertake TB testing
Some of our Year 11’s gained vital practical experience with our local vet, along with a ministry vet from DEFRA, when they assisted in the TB testing of our cattle herd. It is an annual routine check-up that all cattle must undergo and one in which the boys can understand the implications of TB along with the science behind the vaccine.
Year 9 induction week
The new Year 9 group have spent all week settling into their new boarding houses, tutor groups and lessons at Brymore. There were many activities open to the boys including swimming, an inter-house triathlon, fire building and tours of the farm and gardens, to ensure they were fully informed once their duties start.
