A number of our boys completed a BCU Kayak Star 1 award following two weeks of practical and theory and one week of assessments over three Sundays. Nine boys spent more than 6 hours on the water, both at King Sedgemoor Drain and the River Exe, to ensure that they were fully aware of launching, recovering, capsizing, steering and control along with the theory and safety aspects of kayaking.
Working closely with Reach Outdoors the Brymore Activity Co-ordinator Patrick Coll was able to provide this experience for the boys and this is certainly one the boys won’t forget. Patrick said ‘it is great working with an outside agency on this occasion so that, not only can we give the boys a great experience and learning opportunity, they also receive a certified award to take away with them.’
